Comment-to-Messenger: how it works

When a user comments a specific keyword on your Facebook post, the automation:

1. Detects the keyword in the comment
2. Opens a Messenger conversation with that user
3. Sends the configured DM (lead magnet, link, information, or greeting)
4. Optionally posts a public reply to the comment ("Thanks! Check your Messenger 👆")

This creates a two-way win: the commenter gets the promised resource via Messenger, and your post gets a public reply that signals the offer is active to other viewers.

Setting up comment-to-Messenger (ManyChat)

Step 1: Connect your Facebook Page to ManyChat (or your chosen tool).

Step 2: Go to Automation → New Flow → Comment to Messenger.

Step 3: Select the post — either a specific post, all posts, or all posts with a specific keyword in the caption.

Step 4: Set the trigger keyword. Options: exact match (only "PRICING" triggers it) or contains (any comment containing the word "pricing" triggers it).

Step 5: Configure the Messenger response — the DM the commenter receives.

Step 6: Configure the public comment reply (optional but recommended for social proof).

Step 7: Write a caption for your post that includes the CTA: "Comment [KEYWORD] and I'll send you [specific thing] in Messenger."

Public comment auto-reply

Beyond comment-to-Messenger, some businesses want to automatically reply to all comments on a post — not just keyword comments.

Options:

• Meta Business Suite: Allows saved replies that are quickly sent manually, but not fully automatic public comment replies.
• Third-party tools: Some social media management tools (Sprout Social, Hootsuite) offer automated public comment replies, though rules about generic auto-replies should be checked per platform terms.
• Comment-to-Messenger with no keyword requirement: Set the trigger to fire on any comment, not just a specific keyword. This opens a Messenger DM for every commenter and posts a public reply — but can feel spammy if the content wasn't specifically designed for this.

For most business purposes, keyword-based comment-to-Messenger beats generic auto-reply. It targets people who specifically engaged with the CTA, not every casual commenter.

Facebook Ads + comment-to-Messenger

The highest-volume comment-to-Messenger setup combines Facebook Ads with comment automation:

Lead Ad with comments: Run a Facebook Ad with a compelling offer and a "Comment [KEYWORD] for [thing]" CTA. Ad comments trigger Messenger DMs.

Click-to-Messenger Ads: A separate ad format that sends people directly into a Messenger conversation when they click — this doesn't involve comments but is the most direct Facebook Ads → Messenger path.

The ad-powered setup reaches audiences beyond your existing page followers and can generate significantly higher DM volume than organic posts alone.

What to send in the Messenger DM

The Messenger DM triggered by a comment should:

1. Deliver what was promised ("Here's the [thing] I mentioned: [link]")
2. Be specific enough to feel personal, not like a mass DM
3. Ask one qualifying question to continue the conversation
4. Be short — 4–5 lines maximum
