What you need before you start

Before setting up Instagram auto DM, confirm:

1. You have an Instagram Business account (not a personal account). Auto DM features via the Messaging API are only available to Business accounts. Convert in Settings → Account → Switch to Professional Account → Business.

Minutes 1–2: Connect your Instagram account

Log in to the Facebook account associated with your Page, select the Page and Instagram account you want to connect, and grant the required messaging permissions. For a first setup, 3–5 FAQs and basic business information is enough. You can expand it later.

Minute 5: Enable and test

Turn on automated DM replies in the tool settings. Then send a test DM from a secondary Instagram account (a personal account, a friend's account, or a test account) to verify the response comes back accurately and sounds natural.

Ask a question that's covered in your business profile — "What are your hours?" or "What does [service] cost?" — and confirm the auto reply answers correctly.

If the response is slightly off, adjust the relevant part of your business profile and test again. You're done when the test responses sound like something you'd actually send.

What to expect from day one
